Khetwadi Ganesh Utsav
Khetwadi is one of the oldest localities of the old Bombay consisting almost a dozen and half lanes and bylanes with closely packed buildings of 2-3 floors, each housing upto 10 small rooms of 15ft x 15 ft on an average. Every room was packed with 4-6 individuals on anaverage, this gives you an idea of the population of the area. With that large number of individuals available it is no surprise that each lane and many buildings have a separate Ganesh utsav celebration, with the tallest Ganesha idols in the city all belonging to this area.
During the days of Mumbais biggest festival this area becomes a massive fair ground, becoming alive once the sun sets over the horizon, now the small buildings have given way to some of the tallest skyscrapers in south Mumbai with the original residents being replaced by the Gujarati and Marwadi community, but the enthusiasm and the throb of the festival has not reduced by the smallest iota.
